Rocky

Date Adopted:

Breed: wire haired dachshund

Why I chose this dog:

Well today we send Rocky to Wonderdog because my husband has a terminal illness and can no longer care for him. We decided to do this now for several reasons. First The people at Wonderdogs Recue seemed so kind and understanding. And at this phase in my husbands illness, we have time to ensure that Rocky goes to the best people possible. Someone who will love him and care for him, who will spoil him and give him treaties, and take him for walks , and just in general understand how special this little guy really is.

I am not normally a dog person , I am a cat person , it would be really acurate to say I hate dogs. But when Roland Brought Rocky home 3 years ago, I found myself wanting to spoil him, and little by little Rocky has stolen my heart. When we made the decision that Roland could no longer take care of him the way he deserves , I cried and cried.

PLease , who ever decides to be Rocky's forever family, take good care of him. He loves kids , does not like cats very much, and is scared of fireworks and thunderstorms. He loves to snuggle and will lay with you on the couch for hours and hours. He loves cartoons and cherry danish, and is general a spoiled baby. He needs someone who will keep him forever because before we got him he was in 9 homes in two years and very abused before we got him. He has arthritis in his little legs and we have sent him with all his medicines and all his little toys and goodies. Because we have small children he prefers baby toys to doggie toys and all his little toys should be called "bears" even if they are not. That way he knows to fetch them, which he loves to do.

If we could get updates on him on this blog and know that he was content and happy, at least untill Roland passes away, it would make Roland very happy. Loyalty deserves a reward and Rocky has been a loyal service dog and a good friend. He deserves a family who will take him forever.

Rocky and cats

When we adopted Rocky we were told that he didn't like cats very much. Well, he came into a home that had three cats! He settled in just fine. He and Hodge and Amanda are great friends. Isis is still aloof, but then she is still aloof with the other cats!
Yesterday, I gave Rocky his dinner. Hodge the cat had been sitting beside Rocky while Rocky eatsOff and on. I decided to watch their interaction. Every time Rock lifted his head, Hodge would put a paw in the bowl and fish out a bit of food. Rock started to keep his head in the bowl so Hodge couldn't steal from him. Hodge then put his paw over Rocky's head and pulled Rocky's head away from the bowl! Rocky never growled or got upset. Hodge did get to eat the kibble that fell on the floor!
As for Amanda, Rocky really like her. When she jumps up onto the bed, Rocky gives her a great big lick right across the face. Amanda loves it!

Rocky

Rocky is doing great! He's settled in and is having a great time. He's just spent a week at the Russian River and had a great time.

Rocky

We adopted Rock today. We fell in love with him the moment we met him. He is behind me now playing with his new "bear".

We are Ed and Morgan. Our last dog, Boz, passed away last August and we wanted a dog again, but not just any dog.

Rocky is indeed very special. We promise to take good care of him, to love him, to spoil him and give him the very best life we can.

Sometime in the near future it would be very nice to arrange a visit and we will post new pictures of Rocky and all the new friends he will make at Alamo Square.

Ed

You guys are wonderful.....

Ed and Morgan,
It was so good to see you today. And while I was very happy to see Rocky... I was REALLY happy to see him walk away with you, without even looking back. He knows that you ARE his home.....

He feels safe and loved!

The Dog-Gods bless you!

Rocky

That is so great to hear . Roland has been very ill and downhearted , he misses his boy, and is sad to think he , Roland, let Rocky down, because he had to give him up. It will cheer him immensly to know that Rocky has a good home with people who think he is as great as we do.

Would love to arrange a visit sometime before Roland gets too sick to go outside. My summer vacation from school is the end of the month , maybe we could do something then?

Rocky

I just spent the evening taking care of Rocky at an fund raising event. You can read my blog about it here:

He is truly special, and I am in love with him after spending just 4 hours in his presence. We will do everything humanly possible to find him the home that he deserves. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Rocky is doing well...

Hello to all,

I just want to let you know that Rocky is doing well.... he is quiet and VERY sweet, and settling in nicely. Last night when I went to bed he was right there, on my pillow!

More updates later!

Rocky

Glad to hear he is doing so well. Roland misses him so much . I know Rocky misses us too, but hopefully will find someone who loves him as much as we do.

Arf!!

Well, I would say that Rocky is settling in, because he is starting to bark!

He's not overly barky at all! But he'll come to me and BARK when he wants something... and it's usually affection, or a pat on the head or a kiss....

He is sleeping just a foot away.... a loyal companion. He simply RADIATES love!
