Day 1 Feb 13th

Today on lucky number 13th of February Kathy Freitas and I made the journey to Stockton Animal Shelter to rescue Eric & my soon to be foster. We arrive about 130pm. Was greeted by Jennifer and Dr. Stefanie Thielemann and meet a beautiful min pin which they called Bambi due to the way he hops and staggers around.

I carried him to the car where Kathy held him for the two hr drive home. The bumps in the road frighten him but not car sickness. After about an hour he fell sound asleep. When we arrived home we let him roam freely on the grass in the yard and he was excited to smell our dogs scents and the grass. Boy did his little tail nob wiggle! Kathy carried him to the front door while i got a our 3 dogs All Wonder Dog rescues, (2 failed fosters) out in yard. This worked extremely well as they could get familiar with his scent too. Kathy entered x pen in family room with the foster that we discovered on car ride responds multiple ways to the name "Chico"! Then i let our 3 pups back inside to greet through x pen gate as saranique recommended. There was a little growling from foster "Chico" as all three smelled pen. A verbal correction and they calmed down. So everyone got rewarded with some Peanut Butter in a Kong. Which Chico loved! Guinness was ecstatic to meet him so we let him in first to x pen as Guinness loves all except cats! The greeting went well. So we let Guinness 25 # Boston Terrier and chihuahua mix out and Pee Wee a 10 # Rat Terrier & chihuahua mix in. Pee Wee seemed a little scared but Chico was curious and they politely smelled each other. Leia only wanted to steal treats and toys and didn't want to really meet Chico. Later after a few hours they smelled each other through x pen. We were very afraid of her reactions as Pee Wee's introduction didn't go so well a few years back. I have learned so much about their different personalities. Leia is a very pushy 22# Boston Terrier & chihuahua mix.

Kathy took my 3 dogs on a walk and Chico got to explore freely the family room and eat in kitchen. Inside he scoots around pulling himself forward with front legs and drags hind end. Loves his blanket scented with Young Living Lavender Essential oil more than dog bed. Is very curious about everything and sudden noises or loud noises scary him.

We offered dry food with a splash of water as Chico was not interested in water but gobbled down the food. Chico is suspected to be 2-3 yrs old and neutered. He is 9.5 #s and vet said he shouldn't be more than 12 #s. Chico has mobility and balance issues due to cerebellar hypoplasia. He is not in any pain and will not get better. Very wobbly on his feet and falls down. The more excited he is the worse his spasm like motions get. He is happy in x pen but was upset being put in crate for the night at first, whined until I and pups settled in bed. His front legs are pretty strong and he can be very quick. Collars and harnesses make him ancy and very almost scared in turn he gets spastic. He has excited urination didn't even do it in house but outside...he will "run" and fall over scare himself and pee or if you try to pick him up quickly to right him he will pee. Poo is yet ro be determined. Wears belly band fine. Cone was a no go! He started flailing around. Diaper was challenging as he struggled and wiggled and play bit at my hands. But he left it alone once on.

He was not afraid of my husband but did one time attempt to bite. Which was just a warning as Eric was standing over Chico.

Dinner: Eric and I ate Chico stared and got excited at sound of chip bag. Dog feeding went well. He ate it all. But excitedly barked while preparing food for all 4 dogs.

As I write this he rests peacefully with a few ticks and hits crate and scares himself. He is a little sleeper as if I move he watches everything. More to come soon.

Chico is so gorgeous and sweet. It's heart warming to experience his joy!
