Andy is a young french bulldog who came to us through a South Bay shelter. As you can see in the 3rd photo, he was extremely thin, and vomiting daily. There was no idea on the cause. While we were pretty concerned, we brought him into Wonder Dog. A super-hero foster got him in to Mission Pet Hospital, where Dave Gordon did some testing. We learned two things: that he had giardia, which could be causing the weight loss/vomiting ~and ~ that while he was on a hydrolyzed protein diet, it was essential that he not eat anything else! A single "regular"treat would negate the benefit of that diet. Our foster cut out any treats, using only his kibble, and started him on flagyl. Within 3 days the vomiting stopped and he was gaining weight!
We do not know whether Andy needs to stay on this diet, because treating giardia may've been all we needed to do. But for the next couple of months, we want a home for him which WILL keep him on this regime. Andy is an amazing dog, so full of love and playful antics. We are so glad that we took the chance on him!
