Event

Dates and Hours:

Saturday September 27th, 11-5 pm
Sunday September 28th, 11-5 pm.

For years, our Seniors for Seniors Program has adopted wonderful dogs aged 7 and older into loving homes. So many of these dogs languish in shelters, and are overlooked because of potential medical problems or the cost of medications. For this reason we fundraise specifically to save these sweet dogs and provide the care they need. While they are available for general adoption, Wonder Dog waives the adoption fee for anyone 55+. So please have a heart and consider adopting a loving older dog. Everybody wins! Older dogs give so much love and are easier to accommodate. And these beautiful creatures who once knew a loving, stable environment get a second chance at life.

Please also consider making a donation to this program. We can’t do it without you! http://www.wonderdogrescue.org/donate

I got Chloe at the start of COVID in 2020. She howled like a banshee when her foster dad dropped her off at my house. He left in a big red truck and for days after Chloe tried to chase every red pick up she saw.

She was independent from me. I only adopt senior dogs, usually tiny shivering wrecks that cling to me and dissolve in despair when I leave. I had one that would fall apart when I went in the shower! Chloe was not like that. She was alpha and new how to handle herself. When I went to work on a native american reservation Chloe, at 7lbs was not only accepted by the 13 rez dogs outside my house, they would follow her around and protect her from unknown dogs that would wander into their territory. Everyone knew her. In the winter folks got a big kick out of her snow suits. Winters in South Dakota are no joke.

I had her only 3 and a half years. She died suddenly while having her teeth cleaned. I can barely talk about that day. Every time I run into a favorite toy or blanket I fall into deep stillness. I have to sit in the moment with her ..the love and the loss combined.

Hi everyone! We are not holding a meet and greet tomorrow, because of the heat! We will meet individually with folks, however, by appointment. Please let us know if you are interested in meeting any of the dogs.

Sophie and Squid are meeting potential adopters this evening, as is Rocky! Cross your paws for a great home!

Hi! We’ve had a lot of interest in puppies lately, and want to take this opportunity to educate people about how to prepare and what to expect when bringing a puppy into a home. One of my favorite behaviorists is Dr. Ian Dunbar, who has numerous books and has lectured internationally for years. You can download a free copy of his book “Before You Get Your Puppy” here: https://www.dogstardaily.com/files/BEFORE%20You%20Get%20Your%20Puppy.pdf. You can also read more about their work with dogs at https://www.dogstardaily.com/training/dog-behavior

WOOF!

Henri, a boston terrier,  came into our lives about 6 years ago. Wonder Dog Rescue found Henri in central CA, and he was not an easy catch, from what I’d been told. I still think that, even now,  he is afraid of being left and forgotten, abandoned. Poor guy! We are not sure of his past, but we do know that he is very protective of me. Henri is my boy. He follows me all over the house, watching with an eagle-eye, especially in the kitchen. He is intuitive about my thoughts, sensitive in that he knows when to go lay down on the sofa, patient when he waits for Cleo to finish eating so he can give the dog dish a thorough lick.   Henri will walk forever whether it’s in our town or hiking up San Bruno Mt. Henri was our solo pooch, until I learned about Cleo through Wonder Dog.

Cleo, a french bulldog, was 5 when she joined our family. She came to Wonder Dog Rescue when a young couple felt they couldn’t care for her. Their loss! She’ll always be “baby doll” in our home. Cleo loves to sit on her “dad’s” lap when he reads. She loves to relax in the sun, hang out in the dark garage (I can’t figure this one out), and she has a magical ability to know when it’s time for her pill. Cleo loves kisses and any attention, even if it’s just a wrinkle wipe under the eyes. She goes where Henri goes.  Together, Henri and Cleo walk and play together and love each other. They are my babies!

Exciting News! We will be doing our first pop-up event in the #hudsonvalley at @thebarntaproom on Saturday, June 8th. We will have adoptable dogs and pups available, so if you are interested in adopting one, please submit the application to adopt in advance. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

We invite you to come by to meet the available dogs at the rescue every Saturday (weather permitting) between 1-3pm. You can also make an appointment to visit during the week, and in both cases it’s a good idea to submit the application to adopt in advance. We are located at 329 Church Road in Hudson, NY. Please email linda@wonderdogrescue.org to RSVP. Hope to see you!

We will be using this space to give updated information on our activities, about the sweet dogs available for adoption, special events, volunteer opportunities and other goodies. I also want to resurrect something from the old days…. “Love Stories” were short stories with a photo or two, written by our adopters. We love to hear updates from people, and this gives us a way to share these stories with the public. If you have a Love Story to submit, just email it over to @linda
