I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Georgie

I'm Available

Say HI to Georgie! He was rescued from the Los Banos shelter with an overgrown mop of hair that has since been delightfully groomed, with a poof on his head and tail! Here's what his foster family has to say about him:

Georgie is a sweet, smart boy!  He’ll need a few days to settle in. He didn’t let me out of his sight when he first arrived, but is now very content to while away his time snuggled in his bed when he is not out on walks exploring the world!

Georgie is crate trained, knows basic commands (including high five) and is housebroken. Georgie will ‘talk’ to you with grumbles to let you know he needs to go out or ask if he can come up on the couch with you. (If you ignore him, he’ll increase his volume.)

Once he settles in, Georgie prefers his bed or crate, but if you want to snuggle, bring him up on the sofa with you (to let him know that is allowed) and he is all about it!

Georgie’s crate is his security blanket at times. Like a teenager, he could choose to stay in his ‘room’ for hours. But motivate him to come out and join you with treats. I have closed the crate door a few times to let him know he is welcome to hang with the family until bedtime.

Georgie loves walks!  He will need continued work with leash training since he tends to pull. He will bark at other dogs and sometimes people, so needs redirection or affection to remind him everything is ok in the big, wide world. “Heel” leash training will also help him to know you are in control and he can count on you as he learns his new neighborhood.

Got a crowd coming to the house? Georgie does amazingly well but can sometimes bark at a person if he feels surprised when they arrive. Owner affection helps him understand your friends are his friends.

Georgie does not like car rides. Don’t believe him when he runs to the car and acts like he loves them!  He doesn't - they make him anxious. He will get over this.  :-)

Georgie has exhibited food guarding behavior a couple of times. This is good to keep in mind if there are younger people in the home.

Georgie has not been tested with other dogs or cats, so for now, as he continues to settle in, it is best as the only pet in the home.  Stay tuned for an update!!
