Love Stories ~ Chloe

I got Chloe at the start of COVID in 2020. She howled like a banshee when her foster dad dropped her off at my house. He left in a big red truck and for days after Chloe tried to chase every red pick up she saw.

She was independent from me. I only adopt senior dogs, usually tiny shivering wrecks that cling to me and dissolve in despair when I leave. I had one that would fall apart when I went in the shower! Chloe was not like that. She was alpha and new how to handle herself. When I went to work on a native american reservation Chloe, at 7lbs was not only accepted by the 13 rez dogs outside my house, they would follow her around and protect her from unknown dogs that would wander into their territory. Everyone knew her. In the winter folks got a big kick out of her snow suits. Winters in South Dakota are no joke.

I had her only 3 and a half years. She died suddenly while having her teeth cleaned. I can barely talk about that day. Every time I run into a favorite toy or blanket I fall into deep stillness. I have to sit in the moment with her ..the love and the loss combined.
